Solrock

Solrock, The Meteorite Pokémon. A new Pokémon species, rumored to be from the sun. It gives off light while spinning. When it rotates itself, it gives off light similar to the sun, thus blinding its foes. Sunlight is the source of Solrock's power. It is said to possess the ability to read the emotions of others. This Pokémon gives off intense heat while rotating its body. It absorbs solar energy during the day. Always expressionless, it can sense what its foe is thinking.

Overview

I've always liked Solrock. It's pretty dire, but I've always liked it. Way cooler than Lunatone. Its only usable stat is its Attack, which is at a cute 95. It has a few good physical moves, but it's a shame Explosion got nerfed, because it was something that Solrock loved. It has a cool design and a cool ability, and it has an acceptable movepool which leads to a few possible sets, but there isn't too much worth hollering about. HOLLA HOLLA.

Abilities

Levitate: you're immune to Ground moves, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes. Great ability.

Movesets

Choice Band

- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Zen Headbutt / Overheat
Item Attached: Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) / Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)

Stone Edge gets STAB and is your strongest-non-suicidal move. Earthquake partners really well with Rock, and if you're a physical attacker and have access to Earthquake… you'd better have a damn good reason not to be using it. Explosion no longer halves Defence, but it still has 250 base power. Zen Headbutt is another STAB move that really isn't ideal. It can flinch, but it doesn't add too much. Overheat means you can smash Skarmory, Ferrothorn, any physical wall or 4x weak Pokémon really, really hard. It doesn't get STAB, but it has 140 power. It's good enough.

Dual Screens

- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Stone Edge / Stealth Rock / Earthquake / Explosion / Baton Pass
- Stone Edge / Stealth Rock / Earthquake / Explosion / Baton Pass
Item Attached: Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd or 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

Reflect and Light Screen double your team's defences for 8 turns. Stone Edge hits hard and is your strongest reliable move. Stealth Rock is another set up move that can easily win you games. Earthquake is a great move, and pairs perfectly with Stone Edge. Explosion hits really hard, and means Solrock can do something useful with its final breath. Baton Pass avoids Pursuit and allows you to scout and make the perfect choice to beat the opponent's Pokémon.

Polish Pass (or sweep)

- Rock Polish
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Baton Pass / Explosion / Overheat
Item Attached: Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

Rock Polish doubles your Speed, giving you 478 if you don't use a positive nature. Stone Edge hits hard and is your main move. Earthquake is an amazing move, combos well, hits hard, beautiful. Baton Pass passes Rock Polish to a Pokémon of your choice. Explosion smashes stuff hard and works really well with extra Speed. Overheat does the same thing here as it does on the Choice Band set.

Trick Room

- Trick Room
- Stone Edge / Stealth Rock
- Earthquake / Stealth Rock
- Explosion / Stealth Rock
Item Attached:
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)

Trick Room makes slower Pokémon go first, and faster Pokémon go last. It's like a reversal of Speed, except the stats don't actually change. Stone Edge hits nice and hard, Earthquake partners well and does a lot of damage, Explosion is a great last resort, or as a way of removing something very threatening, and Stealth Rock is another support move.

EVs & Natures

Sunny Personality
You need max Attack on pretty much every set (except the support one). Speed is important for most sets too, except for Trick Room. It's pretty simple.

Other Options

Special, Cosmic Power, Magic Coat, Pain Split, Will-O-Wisp
Special is not Solrock's best focus, but you can get some good usage out of it with moves such as SolarBeam during sunshine on Sunny teams and can be boosted by Calm Mind
Cosmic Power boosts Solrock's Defense and Special Defense meaning it can hit longer
Magic Coat is pretty good if you know the opponent is going to use status moves, such as if you're against Pokémon like Whimsicott. It will reflect the status move back at them.
Pain Split is good if you have been hit hard by an attack and will take the opponent's health down too
Will-o-wisp burns the enemy. Simple as that. It damages them and halves their Attack

Double & Triple Battle Options

It gets Gravity and Earthquake, which is cute. Rock Slide gets STAB… it's weak to Surf… there's not much for Solrock to do in doubles and triples. It can Trick Room too.

Partners

Bulky Waters need removing. Electrics work well as you can avoid Earthquake with Solrock's Levitate. Bulky Grass Pokémon also do very well against Solrock.

Countering Solrock

With the exception of the choice set, most Solrock will be providing support or setting up so Taunt is a useful Counter (although beware of Magic Coat). Otherwise, Solrock's Special Defense and typing make it exploitable. On a non-Calm Mind/Cosmic Power set, it is easy to sweep with an advantageous Special move. Ghost-types are useful for the simple fact that they deter Solrock from Exploding. Cofagrigus has a high Defence and Special Attack which means it can withstand a blow and in turn defeat Solrock. Its low speed is also useful for battling a Solrock if it has set up a Trick Room.
