Following the launch of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, rumblings started to happen about DS games and they were announced in a text listing. From there, nothing was heard about the games for a long time until a "Road to Diamond & Pearl" was announced featuring multiple spin-off games until the release of Diamond & Pearl. The games had a breakthrough change of making it so rather than it being based on types, each move was either physical or special depending on their attributes. It added 107 new Pokémon, including many evolutions of previous Pokémon and introduced online play as standard for the games, allowing players all across the world to play with eachother.

Main Series Games

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl were the first games on the Nintendo DS. In these games, you played as a new trainer in the Sinnoh region as he and his neighbour became Pokémon trainers. In addition to facing off against the Gym Leaders and Elite Four, you encountered the evil Team Galactic, who enacted plans to create their own world using Dialga & Palkia.

Pokémon Platinum

Pokémon Platinum is the enhanced version of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, and fixed up many of the complaints of the game, such as speed. In this game, it added new Pokémon forms for Rotom, Giratina and Shaymin and had the story focus more on the awakening of Giratina in the mysterious Distortion World.

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver were remakes of the original Pokémon Gold & Silver. These games improved on a lot of features of Gold & Silver, once again having you travel through the Johto and Kanto regions to collect badges and stop Team Rocket. It featured new features including following Pokémon, new areas including a Safari Zone and the Pokéathlon mini-games.

My Pokémon Ranch

My Pokémon Ranch followed on from Pokémon Box in that it was a storage solution. Downloadable from the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel, the game allowed for you to deposit Pokémon from Pokémon Diamond & Pearl (and in Japan, Pokémon Platinum) into a ranch. From there, you can view their interactions with other Pokémon and see special animations. The trainer there also often offered trades of Pokémon, including the Mythical Pokémon Mew & Phione.

Pokémon Battle Revolution

Pokémon Battle Revolution was a return to the pure Battle Simulator and provided various colosseums to fight through, each with their own unique quirks. It also had online features and was the first Pokémon game with random matchups.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Darkness & Explorers of Time

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Darkness & Explorers of Time were the second Mystery Dungeon games and once again featured play as a human who had turned into a Pokémon. In this game's story, you had to discover the mystery of the Time Gears and work out how they are being used by various antagonists. It featured all 491 Pokémon available at that time.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky was the first enhanced version of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games. This game built upon Explorers of Time & Explorers of Darkness and added more story including Shaymin. It also had special extra episodes that allowed for discovery of the backstory of various Pokémon including the Wigglytuff Guild, Team Charm and Grovyle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad, Let's Go! Stormy Adventure Squad! & Light Adventure Squad

The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon WiiWare games were only released in Japan. Each game featured its own unique dungeons, each with separate Pokémon to be discovered within. By downloading all three games, all 493 Pokémon were able to be obtained. Each game had a slight variation on the story of having to help the local Slowking to solve matters going on in the Pokémon Village.

Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs

Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia

Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia was the second Pokémon Ranger game and featured a massive reworking of the system. Rather than being based on the consecutive circles of a Pokémon, Pokémon now had Hit Points diminish, and could be aided by assists. In addition to that, you could have one of 17 Partner Pokémon, and change them at any one time. The story had you face up against Team Dim Sun as they try to use Darkrai to bring nightmares into the world.

Pokémon Rumble was a WiiWare game that had you play as toy Pokémon, going through various stages collecting more toy Pokémon and then facing off in a massive Battle Royale. Pokémon Diamond & Pearl

Diamond & Pearl:
After defeating the Battle Frontier, Ash & Brock head to the land of Sinnoh where new Pokémon and challenges are to be found. Taking only his Pikachu & Aipom with him, Ash eagerly makes several new pokéon friends including Staravia and Turtwig. They meet up with a rookie Pokémon Co-Ordinator called Dawn and her starting Pokémon Piplup. Travelling through Sinnoh, they constantly have Team Rocket as their evil foil. However, in Sinnoh they do come across many threats including Pokémon Hunter J and Team Galactic as well as rivals in Paul & Zoey. However, they never stop them earning Gym Badges and Contest Ribbons. Can Ash beat this league and will Dawn get to the Grand Festival?

Pokémon Trading Card Game

The Trading Card Game added more new mechanics in line with Diamond & Pearl. Specifically, it added the Lv. X Pokémon, an increase that allows for more powerful damage.
