Using the new 3D engine, Pokémon X & Y revitalised the Pokémon games. While having only 72 new Pokémon introduced, the games introduced a new feature called Mega Evolution, where 46 Pokémon could Mega Evolve in battle to their Mega Evolution, a more powerful version of the Pokémon. It also added the first new type in 14 years, the Fairy-type, introduced to balance the Dragon-type Pokémon. This generation also included a diverse amount of spin-off games, as well as the first major roads into smart device gaming.
