Aurorus

Aurorus, The Tundra Pokémon. The diamond-shaped crystals on its body expel air as cold as -240 degrees Fahrenheit, surrounding its enemies and encasing them in ice. Using its diamond-shaped crystals, it can instantly create a wall of ice to block an opponent's attack.

Overview

Another mon from the land before time. These are always some of my favorites. It admittedly doesn't quite capture the feeling I got back in the day when I first revived Aerodactyl or Kabutops like its counterpart Tyrantrum does, and it isn't nearly as viable by any means..but it's hella fun to play with in spite of its many shortcomings.
Positives
+ Unique Typing + 2 great abilities
+ Amazing 123 Base HP, and solid 99 SpA and 92 SpD
+ Wide variety of offensive tricks in its arsenal
+ Very cool design. Gotta love those fossil Pokémon

Negatives
- While Ice/Rock type is an interesting offensive combo to behold..it's just ridiculously bad on the defensive of things.
- Weak to all manner of entry hazards
- Just awful speed... sporting a mere 58 Base Spe

Abilities

Refrigerate: Increases the power of Normal-type moves by 30%. It then changes those moves to Ice-type. Much like Pixilate and Aerilate, this is a great ability. Changing moves like Hyper Voice and others to ICe-type, getting a boost then getting STAB is just great. Hidden Ability (Available):
Snow Warning: Hailstorm blows when the Pokémon enters battle. As of X & Y, this lasts 5 turns. Also a good ability, but with Refrigerate around, it's a lot more situational

Movesets

Like my cool shades?

- Hyper Voice
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Frost Breath
Item Attached: Choice Specs
Ability: Refrigerate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature

This thing is admittedly all kinds of fun to use despite being the very definition of a glass cannon because of it's typing. Refrigerate powered Hyper Voices + Specs are ridiculously powerful and they can hit through Substitutes as well. Freeze-Dry hits Water Types for Super Effective damage and makes things like Poliwrath think twice before trying in on our friend Aurorus and and force a switch out. Earth Power allows Aurorus to OHKO Eviolite Combusken as well as 2HKO Assault Vest Magmortar. Last but not least Frost Breath allows you to take out th Calm Mind users like Mega Audino because it always results in a Critical Hit.

Leading Dinosorus?

- Stealth Rock
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Rock Tomb
Item Attached: Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature

In addition to its offensive prowess Aurorus also makes for a passable lead. Blizzard is by far its best attack with Snow Warning up, plus it can force other Focus Sash leads or Entry Hazard Removers like Xatu to switch out or get OHKO'd. Freeze-Dry is there so our buddy can hit Water-Types hard. Rock Tomb is crucial for lowering your enemies speed and should be taken over Icy Wind because it adds more coverage options.

Other Options

- Life Orb is a half decent option in place of Choice Specs with the right team support. Only problem is it saps your HP which will inevitably get sapped by entry hazards like Stealth Rock mainly without the proper team support.
- Icy Rock also is somewhat viable as well on Snow Warning sets since with X/Y it only lasts 5 rounds now.

Countering Aurorus

There are sooo many. I wish that was an understatement but it's just not because of its typing. It has a particually hard time dealing with Fighting Types and Thick Fat users, or in the case of Hariyama which is both lol. Not to mention Water Types like Poliwrath and Kabutops. Even some Grass types will give you problems if they're fast enough like Swiftry..and if it didn't have enough problems it's also weak to nearly every priority move in the game and entry hazards.
