Mario Circuit is a stage that has the fighting take place on a race track utilised in the Mario Kart races. However, this is not just an idle track; there are numeruous Shy Guy driving through the stage
As there are Shy Guy racing through the track, they will sometimes come through to where you are battling. There is a board in the back that gives you notifications as to where the Shy Guy are so you can prepare yourself. The track is a looped one so they will come across both the button and the top of the level. If they hit you, they will cause damage and possibly KO you. However, you have the ability to damage them and stop them hurting you if you time it right
