LEGO Pokémon Smart Play |
In the second wave of LEGO Pokémon sets, the first Smart Play sets were introduced. These sets were aimed at the younger audience and have you build simplified models of the Pokémon but with a difference, each Pokémon has got a smart tag that allows for it to interact with other Pokémon and other smart tags. This is done with use of the LEGO Smart Brick, which is available in some of the LEGO sets. When a brick is nearby a tag, it will be able to achieve many special interactions through play, and most importantly, allowing for you to battle with the Pokémon. Note: All the data being provided is observed data and may not be the exact values coded into the Smart Brick. |

Battles |
Battles start fairly simply. If you have two Pokémon nearby and you shake both of them rapidly, a battle will soon begin, as singified by a battle theme playing. Each Pokémon has got a specific amount of Hit Points. To determine these Hit Points, we used neutral damage from basic Pokémon. These Hit Points not only denote the amount of hits that need to be taken for a Pokémon to be knocked out, but also the amount of damage that can be inflicted. There are two kinds of attacks that a Pokémon can do. A quick move is just a quick jolt motion forwards and would do 1 standard hit of damage. If you shake the Pokémon, you can charge up a Charge move. Based on how long you shake it, it will do up to 4* the usual damage inflicted from a Quick move. In addition to attacking, the Pokémon can also dodge out of the way of both Quick and Charged attacks As with the main Pokémon series, each Pokémon has got its specific type and can unleash various moves of the type, with the type being factored in As Pokémon have varying strengths, there is a damage multiplier that seems to be applied based on it. The damage is typically based around the evolution stage of it is a Legendary Pokémon.
During battle, you can also feed a Pokémon a Sandwich, Berry or Potion with a Smart Tag on it to restore its Hit Points in battle> The longer it is near those items, the more Hit Points are restored. |

Type Effectiveness |
As with the main Pokémon series, each Pokémon has got its specific type and can unleash various moves of the type, with the type being factored in. The type chart is identical to how it is in the Pokémon games as of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, but like with other games including Pokémon GO, the values that are used are adjusted; for example, there is no such thing as a complete immunity, so you can use a Bidoof against a Gengar, it will just need to do a lot more damage. Training |
Within several of the LEGO Pokémon Smart Play sets, there are also training tags. When a Pokémon activates these tags, it goes into a special training mini-game where you can attack a target, or shake the Pokémon in order to train it up. After a small bit of training, you will hear a noise for levelling up and when you stop, the Pokémon itself will Level Up. This levelling only boosts up the Pokémon's attack stats and not its Hit Points. The training raises exponentially. For example, a Bidoof trained 10 times will knock out a Charmander in 5 Quick moves, and 30 times it will knock it out after 3 Quick moves. This eventually plateaus at approximately 4* an increase in power. This training not only boosts up Quick moves but also Charge moves. This training is lost when the Smart Brick is removed or the brick enters sleep mode.. |

Other Play |
In addition to the battles, the Pokémon will also interact with other smart bricks so you can play some small mini-games such as with the Buggy or a Drone, or playing the target practice in the Gengar & Cubone set. These don't boost any battle modes but add an extra layer of fun. In addition to this, if two or more Pokémon are in proximity to eachother, they will start having a conversation. If they are lying down, they will also start to sleep. |
