Unlike the previous game, you don't play as just Pikachu, but can instead play as one of four different Pokémon, each of them having their own moves they can use in battle and enhanced abilities ingame which allow them to do tasks that each of the other Pokémon cannot do. As such, switching between the Pokémon is a vital thing to do. This page is to detail each of the Pokémon you can play as, as well as their moves and special abilities.

Quick Attack
Iron Tail

Pikachu is the primary Pokémon used in the gameplay. It currently has no known special features compared to the other three Pokémon, but is seen to carry various items and Pokémon and has a plethora of powerful attacks that can aid in your quest. In battle, Pikachu is the Pokémon considered to be the all-round Pokémon with decent balance of power and speed

Leaf Tornado
Leaf Storm

Snivy is the Grass-type Pokémon that you can play as in the game. Snivy has the ability to increase the height of its jumps compared to other Pokémon by using its move: Leaf Tornado. This allows it to reach areas that are not as easily accessible to other Pokémon.

Heat Crash

Tepig is the Fire-type Pokémon that you can play as in the game. Dotted around various areas, you will see some giant boulders that need breaking. The way to destroy these boulders is by using Tepig and having Tepig use Flame Charge to crash into the boulder. Tepig is considered the strongest of the four Pokémon you can play with.

Water Gun
Shell Blade

Oshawott is the Water-type Pokémon that you can play as in the game. In certain areas, you will find large bodies of water which require traversing. Oshawott is the only one of the four Pokémon who has the ability to swim through these areas to encounter the Pokémon.
