Battle Tournament - Level 50-55

The Level 50-55 Battle Tournament mode is different to the other tournament mode in that it doesn't work off of cups of various difficulty levels but instead pits you against 8 trainers and that's that. The trainers within this mode are a random assortment of 15 trainers who battled in the Nintendo Cup in Japan in 1997. The Pokémon have varied levels and movesets and manage to provide a decent challenge. Like the other cup, you select 3 Pokémon of the 6 Pokémon within your team

If you make it through the Level 50-55 Battle Tournament with a Pikachu on your squad, you get given the option to teach it the special move; Surf, which accesses a special feature in Pokémon Yellow.
